What Is Involved in Our Design Process?
Initial Consultation & Vision Planning:
We will come out to check out your yard, sun/shade patterns, slope, soil type, etc. And we'll consult with you to understand your vision—Do you want a natural pond or a formal one? Waterfall size? Fish? Plants? Lighting? And we'll help align your vision with what’s realistic for your budget and space.
Design & Proposal:
We'll get to work using digital design tools to create your pond layout, including its shape, depth, waterfall features, rock placement, and landscaping.
Proposal & Estimate:
We will present you with our detailed breakdown of costs—labor, materials, plants, lighting, filtration system, etc.
Excavation & Base Construction:
First we'll excavate the area, sometimes in tiers if there are plant shelves or a deep end for fish. Then we'll install underlayment & liners to protect against punctures and to hold water. Plumbing is set up, including piping for the pump, filters, and waterfall.
Waterfall & Circulation System:
Sized to match the waterfall height and pond volume, the pump is installed, as well as a filtration system to keep water clean.
Waterfall Spillway or Rock Feature:
A big part of the process, and where are creativity shines, is the construction of the waterfall using boulders or stone, ensuring it looks natural and sounds soothing. This includes placing boulders and gravel, and finally, aquatic and terrestrial plants, both in the water (lilies, reeds, etc.) and around the pond (ferns, hostas or decorative grasses).
Lighting & Extras:
Your plan for a pond can include submersible lights in the pond and spotlights on the waterfall to make it magical at night. Also, a plan may include bridges, decking, or bench seating areas.
Final Setup & Walkthrough:
For the final touches, we'll run the pump, check water flow, adjust waterfall rocks for sound and look, and show you how to operate the system, clean filters, and do basic maintenance.
